Caney Pines Convention Center: The New EMC Convention Center in Valley Ranch

Caney Pines Convention Center

The new New Caney convention center in Valley Ranch, and what it means for homeowners, buyers and businesses

A 210,070-square-foot venue is about to open in the middle of Valley Ranch. Here is what is inside, when it opens and how it could shape the neighborhoods around it.

A Convention Center for East Montgomery County

Big things are happening in Valley Ranch. The East Montgomery County Improvement District’s new convention center now has a name, Caney Pines, and after about 19 months of steady construction since January 2025, the 210,070-square-foot building is in its final phase. EMCID is planning a grand opening celebration for December 2026, and bookings for 2027 are already underway.

The name looks back at the area’s roots. EMCID says Caney Pines draws on the region’s logging history, its forested woodlands and wildlife, and the first settlement that grew into today’s New Caney. The building itself looks forward: when it opens, EMCID says Caney Pines will be the third largest convention center in Houston and the seventh largest in Texas, a genuine regional destination in East Montgomery County.

The $159 million project was designed by HHCP Architects, and SpawGlass is leading construction. Beyond the ballroom and meeting rooms, EMCID lists a 5,109-square-foot commercial kitchen for banquets and catering and an 811-space attached parking garage, which matters on event days when thousands of guests arrive at once. Access is by I-69 (US 59) and the Grand Parkway (SH 99), so visitors from downtown Houston, Bush Intercontinental Airport, Kingwood and The Woodlands can reach Valley Ranch without city streets.

Oak View Group, the venue’s third-party operator, has named Melanie Granado as general manager. In The Insider she said the venue “has the potential to be a true catalyst for connection and growth throughout the region,” and that her goal is to attract new meetings and conventions while making Caney Pines a premier meeting destination.

6 Ways Caney Pines Changes Valley Ranch

1

Valley Ranch becomes a destination, not just a shopping stop

A venue that can host more than 6,000 people gives visitors a reason to drive to New Caney for an evening or a weekend, and they will spend time in the shops and restaurants around Valley Ranch.

2

Local celebrations stay local

Graduations, weddings, business conferences and community celebrations can now happen minutes from home for East Montgomery County families.

3

New jobs close to home

EMCID expects 13 management-level positions and 50 to 75 part-time roles in event staff, culinary and guest services, and event days support work for caterers, florists, photographers and vendors.

4

More demand for nearby commercial space

Hospitality, food service and entertainment businesses will want to be close to the venue. If you own or want retail space near Valley Ranch, the convention center is part of the math.

5

A long-term investment in the district

EMCID projects $1.73 billion in net new spending and $775 million in net new earnings to the district over 30 years. Those are projections, but they explain why the district is building.

6

Family events through the holidays

A Holiday to Remember runs December 26 through January 4 at Caney Pines, with ice skating, an ice slide, bumper cars and concessions, and EMCID has a full calendar of 2027 community events planned.

For Homeowners and Buyers Near Valley Ranch

If you live in Valley Ranch or one of the nearby New Caney and Porter neighborhoods, the convention center is a new amenity a short drive from home, along with the Valley Ranch Town Center shops and the planned 55-acre, H-E-B anchored Commerce District. Expect more activity on big event days, and expect more people to discover the area for the first time.

For buyers, that combination of shopping, events and nearby jobs at the EMC Industrial Park is a big part of the appeal. Compare Valley Ranch with Tavola, Roman Forest and the Porter communities in my guides, confirm the New Caney ISD campus by address, and read the MUD and property tax guide so the payment holds no surprises.

If you already own a home and are thinking about moving up, or moving closer to Valley Ranch, ask yourself the question that shapes the whole plan: what is my current home worth today? I will prepare a free home valuation so you can time the sale and the purchase together. Sellers who want to keep more of their equity can also ask me about my flat-fee listing program.

Buying Near an Event Venue: What I Check

Living close to a major venue is a lot like living near a stadium or a busy town center: most days you enjoy the convenience, and a handful of days you plan around the crowd. Before you write an offer on a home near the Valley Ranch Entertainment District, here is what I look at with my buyers.

First, the route. Drive from the house to I-69 and to the Grand Parkway on a weekday evening and on a Saturday, and note which streets the venue traffic is likely to use. Second, the view and the sound. A home that backs to a commercial tract today may face a parking area, a hotel or a restaurant tomorrow, so we read the plat and ask the developer what is planned next door. Third, the long game. Amenities that draw visitors can also draw future buyers when it is your turn to sell, which is why I always talk about resale on the way in.

Finally, the basics never change: the MUD and total tax rate, the flood map and elevation certificate, the HOA rules, and the school campus assigned to that exact address. Get those right and the convention center becomes a bonus rather than a gamble.

The Commercial Opportunity

Convention centers rarely stand alone for long. Visitors need meals, fuel, entertainment and eventually lodging. As of mid-2026, published reports said EMCID was still seeking a hotel partner and had set aside a site that would connect to the convention center, so lodging is a project to watch rather than a done deal.

For restaurant owners, retailers, event vendors and investors, the question is location and timing. I work commercial real estate as well as residential, so I can help you find retail space for lease, evaluate commercial land near Valley Ranch, or prepare a Broker Opinion of Value if you own a property that could benefit from the new traffic. Existing businesses in eligible parts of the district should also look at EMCID’s Facade Improvement Grant, which offers up to $10,000 in matching funds for qualified exterior upgrades.

Caney Pines FAQ

Caney Pines is in the Valley Ranch Entertainment District in New Caney, part of The Signorelli Company’s Valley Ranch development near I-69 (US 59) and the Grand Parkway (SH 99) in East Montgomery County.

EMCID reports the building is in its final phase of construction, with a grand opening celebration planned for December 2026. Event bookings for 2027 are already underway.

The venue is 210,070 square feet. EMCID says that makes it the third largest convention center in Houston and the seventh largest in Texas. It includes a 55,000-square-foot ballroom and exhibition hall that can host more than 6,000 attendees, flexible space that divides into up to seven smaller rooms, two signature meeting rooms overlooking Valley Ranch and an 11,000-square-foot outdoor patio.

EMCID owns the project. Oak View Group (OVG) is the third-party operator, and OVG has named Melanie Granado as general manager.

It is designed for weddings, graduations, business conferences, trade shows, community celebrations, live entertainment and youth sports tournaments. The first public event announced is A Holiday to Remember, December 26 through January 4, with ice skating, an ice slide, bumper cars and concessions.

No. The Atrium Center is EMCID’s former office building, repurposed as a smaller event venue, and it is where the EMCID board meets on the second Thursday of each month unless otherwise posted. Caney Pines is the new, much larger convention center in Valley Ranch.

Not yet. As of mid-2026, published reports said EMCID was seeking a hotel partner and had set aside a site that would connect to the convention center. No hotel had been announced.

It adds an amenity, jobs and visitor traffic next door. That can make the area more appealing to buyers, and it also means more activity on event days. For your specific home, a current market analysis is the honest way to measure value.
